2011 Melon Festival
The Melon Festival has every melon-related activity you could think of - melon skiing, melon iron man, melon pip spitting, melon tossing. There's also melon bungee, melon bullseye, melon ball games and the big melon weigh-in. The big news from the 2009 Festival was that John Allwood broke 47 melons with his head in one minute for the Guinness World Record (his previous record set in 2007 was 40). Watch the video footage from his record in 2007 below.
The next Melon Fest is scheduled for 17 - 20 February 2011, with Saturday 19th being the BIG FAMILY FUN DAY which includes the street parade, the markets, the melon games and the FREE FAMILY CONCERT.
Held every 2 years, the event receives world-wide media attention and has been profiled on state, national and international television programmes.
The Reuters video footage of John Allwood's World Record breaking Melon Smashing in 2007 can be viewed below.
